With this project, I tried to turn myself into an automaton and investigated the meaning of repeating the same pattern endlessly - as to work up quantity - but I also questioned what it means to repeat myself and my gestures. It resulted in a six-meter-wide and four-meter-high curtain consisting of two layers, where the outer layer is visible through the front.
This project has been showed in various settings, each time differently as I adapted to the specific conditions and qualities of the locations.
“Elsa Chartin’s art is an exponent of patterns and tactility. Her unique artistic method combines a purposeful approach with serendipity; the carefully thought-out with the unexpected.”
